In a Pictorialist Style
I have a passionate love and admiration for the Pictorialists. In 2019, after years of photographic and artistic stagnancy, I rediscovered the work of pictorialists such as Leonard Missone, Josef Sudek, Gustave Marissiaux, Edward Steichen and other pictorialists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I cannot begin to describe the feelings of awe that I was experiencing when looking through their work. I immediately dusted off my camera(literally)and began feverishly working again. I had never been so inspired to make photographs in all my years of photography. I feel I owe these amazing artists so much since then. If not for them reinvigorating the photographer in me, who knows how thick the layers of dust my camera would have continued to collect.
While these works are far cry from the atmosphere and wonder those artists created, I nonetheless find myself immensely inspired by their work and strive not to copy, but to pay somewhat of an homage to their aesthetic with these works.
