Work, work, work. But the good kind.

I do not really expect anyone to actually read these blog posts. It is more a personal journal and journey for me at this point. It may end up being therapeutic or cathartic, so why not?

Yesterday, I worked on numerous projects all day. I first started by printing in the darkroom though I was kind of unsuccessful in that. I was working on a particularly difficult print with multiple areas to dodge and burn and just couldn’t get it quite right. I will make the endeavor to perfect it tomorrow when my daughter, Ella, is in school. It is a very striking image of the abandoned hotel in New Mexico on Route 66 and I would like to get it right. My husband, Micah, is on a day sleep schedule so he will be sleeping most of the daytime which gives me roughly 8 hours to do what pleases me. Those that know Micah know that he has a sleep disorder that gradually alters his body’s sleep patterns. Our insurance will not cover the medication that could help as it is a disorder that typically affects the blind. Without coverage, it would cost $14,000 a month. NO JOKE! Insurance is such a goddamn scam in this country.

After my attempted printing, I decided to do a few projects in my darkroom that I have been wanting to do for some time. I used some ducting that the previous owners of the house left behind and installed/moved an exhaust fan over the chemical trays to save me from some of the fumes. They had a wood burning stove in that room prior to us buying the house and conveniently there is a chimney to the outside. So, as with many instances within this house, it seems as though this darkroom was meant to be.

Also, in preparation for a sink install, I cleared out all the paneling and other crap that was left behind in this room. I will have to get a quote from a plumber soon as I am not confident that I could do the welding of the copper fittings for the water supply. I can do the rest however once that is done unless the quote wouldn’t cost much more to complete the whole project. Initially, I was going to try to have it installed on the opposite wall of the chemical shelf where all the paneling was but then realized a drain pipe would not be possible from there. I then realized that there is a perfect spot right against a small wall which is directly in front of the furnace closet that contains the water heater and main drain for the house. This install has suddenly become the simplest it could possible be! Again, meant to be? I cannot wait to have a working water supply in my darkroom! I am SO excited to have this amazing upgrade.

With the back wall now freed up for something else, today I am going to build another shelf for my print iron and cricut etc., which will be amazing. As with the rest of the darkroom build, I will simply use leftover wood from the old fence in the back yard so it will be free of charge and I will enjoy another project.

Oh! I also fixed the broken toilet downstairs and spent some time in the garden… Phew! Sleep came easy last night.

That is the summary of my day yesterday. Since it is forecast to rain today, I will be building the shelf and whatever else I can accomplish indoors.

If you read this, thank you for indulging me!
